Eric Nieves

The comedy career of ERIC NIEVES began in the Bronx on December 17, 1971 born in the since shuttered Lincoln Hospital to Jose and Brunilda Nieves. (Mother found nothing funny about that day, but I had a good time.) My father left soon after and I was raised, quite well thank you, by mom. I graduated High School and enrolled in the State University of New York – Oswego... a town that brings a whole new meaning to 'middle of nowhere'. After graduation I moved to Tampa, Florida for two years (needed to thaw off after Oswego.) It was at this time I started my career...as a social worker. (The comedy is coming...trust me.) During this time I took my first shot at a local Tampa comedy club amateur contest. After winning and catching the comedy bug I moved back to New York City to attempt a career. (As a social worker at first...I wasn't ready for comedy just yet!) I entered my first amateur contest…and lost. (The guy who beat me was a five year veteran at that point, but I won't mention names as he is still in the business.); however, the club manager saw something in me and gave me a weekly spot. (12:00 am show on Saturdays... I was in heaven!) I made my paid comedy debut in 1994... I also honed my skills as a comedian, writer and performer with the sketch comedy group Nuyorican Rule during the next 8 years.

In 1999 I was introduced to Joey Edmonds and since that time I have traveled to over 350 Universities explaining to the nation exactly what a Puerto Rican is and breaking a few stereotypes. (Probably re-in forced some New York stereotypes, but I try to help.) My credits include a guest-starring role on NYPD Blue, as well as appearances on Showtime at the Apollo and BET's Comic View.

Editors Note: Eric's reality based humor, upbeat delivery and engaging smile have garnered thousands of fans across the country!
